The art & craft of language as a transformational creative tool
We are makers, creators, and students and teachers of art and culture. We have designed popular multimedia experiential courses for major universities and believe that everyone has both the potential to create, move others, and be moved and the ability to further hone their craft.
Words
English is just one language and though it happens to be the one we have particular expertise in, we view it vis-á-vis all the other beautiful tools, systems, and modes of expression/ communication available to us.
Photography
Photography is essentially the art of capturing light. As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. Exploring how to creatively or maximally combine these ideas is a powerful part of our practice and process.
Videography
Film, video, and movies are essentially the still frames of photography translated into moving images. Add words and narrative structures to this along space+time and you have all the tinder for powerful storytelling.
Audio
Music, chanting, and the oral tradition has long predated the written word. We’ve worked for many years in this space and are always listening for new sounds to create and mesmerizing projects to collaborate on.

The original Academy (Akademia), a school outside the city walls of ancient Athens, was founded by Plato in 387 BC. During the Enlightenment in France, Salons (salonnières) were places where civilians of all social classes could gather to discuss ideas, headed by an inspiring host.
The idea behind Firelight Akademia is to create a space and movement that burns in the rapidly changing present while reconciling the best ideas of our past with the promise and potential of our collective future.
